FloreanisadescendantofDexter,andIoriginallyplannedFloreantobetheconduitforcluesthatIneededtogiveHarryduringhisquestfortheHallows,whichiswhyIestablishedanacquaintancefairlyearlyon.Atthisstage,Iimaginedthehistorically-mindedFloreanmighthaveasmatteringofinformationonmattersasdiverseastheElderWandandthediademofRavenclaw,theinformationhavingbeenpasseddownintheFortescuefamilyfromtheiraugustancestor.AsIworkedmywaynearertothepointwheresuchinformationwouldbecomenecessary,IcausedFloreantobekidnapped,intendinghimtobefoundorrescuedbyHarryandhisfriends.

Florean是Dexter的一位后人，我最初将Florean设计为在Harry寻找圣器时为他提供线索的人物，因此我在很早的地方就让他们熟识。在那时，我设想历史知识渊博的Florean也许会知道零星关于老魔杖和Ravenclaw的冠冕的信息，这些信息从他令人尊敬的先人那里在整个Fortescue家族中传播下来。当我的写作逐渐进行到这些信息将会变得十分必要的地方时，我让Florean被绑架了，计划在之后让Harry和他的朋友发现或者救援他。

TheproblemwasthatwhenIcametowritethekeypartsofDeathlyHallowsIdecidedthatPhineasNigellusBlackwasamuchmoresatisfactorymeansofconveyingclues.Florean’sinformationonthediademalsofeltredundant,asicouldgivethereadereverythingheorsheneededbyinterviewingtheGreyLady.Allinall,Iseemedtohavehadhimkidnappedandkilledfornoreason.HeisnotthefirstwizardwhomVoldemortmurderedbecauseheknewtoomuch(ortoolittle),butheistheonlyoneIfeelguiltyabout,becauseitwasallmyfault.

问题在于，当写到死亡圣器的核心剧情时，我最终决定PhineasNigellusBlack作为传递线索的人物会更加令人满意。Florean关于冠冕的信息也变得多余，因为我可以借GreyLady之口将所有需要的信息传递给读者。总而言之，我似乎没有什么理由就让他被绑架并被杀死了。他当然不是第一个因为知道的太多（或者太少）而被Voldemort杀死的巫师，但他是唯一一个令我感到内疚的，因为这实际上都是我的错。
