LikeeveryotherchildofHarryPotter’sage,DracoheardstoriesoftheBoyWhoLivedthroughhisyouth.ManydifferenttheorieshadbeenincirculationforyearsastohowHarrysurvivedwhatshouldhavebeenalethalattack,andoneofthemostpersistentwasthatHarryhimselfwasagreatDarkWizard.Thefactthathehadbeenremovedfromthewizardingcommunityseemed(towishfulthinkers)tosupportthisview,andDraco’sfather,wilyLuciusMalfoy,wasoneofthosewhosubscribedmosteagerlytothetheory.Itwascomfortingtothinkthathe,Lucius,mightbeinforasecondchanceofworlddomination,shouldthisPotterboyprovetobeanother,andgreater,pure-bloodchampion.Itwas,therefore,intheknowledgethathewasdoingnothingofwhichhisfatherwoulddisapprove,andinthehopethathemightbeabletorelaysomeinterestingnewshome,thatDracoMalfoyofferedHarryPotterhishandwhenherealisedwhohewasontheHogwartsExpress.Harry’srefusalofDraco’sfriendlyovertures,andthefactthathehadalreadyformedallegiancetoRonWeasley,whosefamilyisanathematotheMalfoys,turnsMalfoyagainsthimatonce.Dracorealised,correctly,thatthewildhopesoftheex-DeathEaters–thatHarryPotterwasanother,andbetter,Voldemort–arecompletelyunfounded,andtheirmutualenmityisassuredfromthatpoint.

WhilemanypeoplethoughtthatHarryPotter,whohadwitnessedtheDarkLord’srebirth,wasaliarorafantasist,DracoMalfoywasoneofthefewwhoknewthatHarrywastellingthetruth.HisownfatherhadfelthisDarkMarkburnandhadflowntorejointheDarkLord,witnessingHarryandVoldemort’sgraveyardduel.

当许多人以为见证了黑魔王重生的HarryPotter是骗子或者妄想狂的时候，DracoMalfoy是少数几个明白Harry说的是真相的人。他自己的父亲感觉到了黑魔标记的烧灼，并且飞去重新加入黑魔王麾下，见证了Harry和Voldemort的墓地决斗。
