They let out piercing screeches and lunged forward.

I instinctively raised the wood雕, its light flaring up, creating a protective barrier around me and the stone sculpture.

The Lin Xiao slammed into the barrier, their twisted bodies recoiling from the light. They didn't stop though, they kept attacking, scratching, biting, and slamming into the barrier, trying to break through. Their movements were frenzied and desperate.

The barrier flickered under the assault, showing signs of strain. The air filled with their shrieks and the sound of their bodies hitting the invisible wall.

I felt a growing pressure on the barrier, as if the sheer force of their numbers was overwhelming it. The wood雕 in my hand was vibrating violently, and the light barrier was starting to dim.

I knew I couldn't hold them off for long.

Then, from the shadows beyond the Lin Xiao, I saw movement.

Other figures, smaller than the Lin Xiao, but moving with purpose. They were the villagers.

Armed with their fire and primitive weapons, they charged into the clearing, yelling war cries. They attacked the Lin Xiao with a ferocity that surprised me, driving them back from the barrier.
