Pirates of the Caribbean chapter one
"Miss Swan, have you finished getting ready?" a maid asked politely. "I think so," Elizabeth replied as she arranged her hair. "Miss, that's not acceptable. The Duke said you must wear a dress this time; you can't wear that gray tight sailor suit anymore," the maid said anxiously. "I find any clothes that don't allow for easy movement very uncomfortable," Elizabeth shrugged. Just then, the door clicked open, and Duke Swan walked in. "My dear, didn't I tell you not to wear tight clothing? Why are you still wearing it?" "Father, the dress you asked me to wear makes it hard for me to breathe," Elizabeth said helplessly. "Please, for my sake, just wear it," Duke Swan insisted. "Damn it," Elizabeth muttered, but she still put on the dress. "People in dresses surely don't need to breathe."
Will Turner was polishing a sword when he looked up and saw Elizabeth walking out of the room. He suddenly felt a rush of heat, as if he had done something outrageous. She was beautiful. He thought to himself, not noticing the sword slipping from his hand and cutting a small line in his palm. He stared at her until she spoke. "This sword is quite nice; did you forge it yourself?" Will was still dazed and took a while to realize she was talking to him. "Um... yes, I forged it myself." He paused, "If you want, I can help you forge one too.Miss Swan“"No need for formalities; just call me normally," Elizabeth replied. "Alright." "Where do you forge swords?" Elizabeth asked curiously. "In a little shack by the sea," Will said, wondering if that was accurate. Elizabeth seemed uninterested in that. "Damn it, women in London must not need to breathe," she said, taking a breath. Will: ? "it's nothing; forget I said anything," Elizabeth said, walking away. Will, realizing too late, said, "Tomorrow, I'll bring the sword to you." "No need; I'll go get it myself," Elizabeth shouted. She truly shattered Will"s understanding of girls; in his impression, girls usually only dabbled in music and arts. But she...?
Will returned to his little shack and looked around at the things he had placed there. One characteristic of his arrangement was that sharp corners faced south. "where I put you," he checked a row of swords. "Not where I put you," he checked the hammer used for forging. Suddenly, a sword that definitely did not come from his hand was pressed against his throat. "don't move,"the sword-wielder said, his voice deep and strange, "The sword doesn"t have eyes in Jack Sparrow"s hands." "So, you are the infamous pirate Jack Sparrow?" Will asked. "I'm afraid so," Jack said, trying to open a window, only to find it barred with iron chains. He attempted to leave through the door, but Will blocked his way. "I need to escape before the guards arrive; let me out." He glared at Will. "No. I'm waiting for the guards. Capturing you is a big deal; the reward is quite substantial. Even if it comes to a fight, my three hours of practice a day should be enough," Will replied. Jack kicked over a bag of flour, sending it flying into Will's eyes. "You fight without rules!" "Rule of fighting one: never fight with rules. Practicing against a wall for three hours a day won't defeat Jack Sparrow; you're overthinking it." "What if I practice for twelve hours a day?" a voice cut through the tension. "Hmm?" Jack turned around. "Elizabeth?" Will"s mouth fell open, looking like a surprised fish that had run aground. "If I practiced for twelve hours a day, could I defeat you?" she asked again. "Twelve hours? that's a long time," Jack raised an eyebrow, "Girl, I'll play with you." He drew his sword and tested the blade with his thumb. Elizabeth also drew her sword, the hilt inlaid with a crystal. "Nice sword, but can you use it?" Jack mocked. "Would you believe me if I said I couldn"t?" "I would."
Elizabeth: ... The next second, a world war erupted. "Your swordplay lacks power," Jack panted slightly, "but the angles are good. Now let me see your footwork." Will: ? How did a world war turn into a training session? "Your footwork is quite good; just take bigger steps," Jack continued. "The reason I take smaller steps is intentional," Elizabeth said. She spun around, positioning her sword against his throat. "Turn faster. Rule of fighting two: surprise is the key to victory." "Nice," Jack said.Suddenly, there was a loud banging on the door. The two stopped their swordplay. "The guards!" Elizabeth peered through a small crack, "Jack, hurry up and leave." Will was shocked. "How can you? He's a wanted criminal! Capturing him would bring a huge reward!" "Forget it; there won't be another Captain Jack Sparrow in this world. We have no grievances with him, so why not let him go?" "Fine!" Will said, a bit angrily, stepping aside. "Hurry up!" Just as Jack stepped out, the guards followed closely behind.
"Jack Sparrow, have you seen him?" a fierce-looking guard asked, baring his teeth. Will instinctively took a step forward. "No, we haven't seen him. Neither "Jack Sparrow" nor "Jack the Sparrow"." Elizabeth said. Seeing that it was the Duke"s daughter, the guards didn't suspect anything. "If you see him, be sure to report immediately." "All right, we will." the guards said, leaving the small shack empty-handed.
"Great, we just wasted our time." Will complained. "No way," Elizabeth said, as if she had drawn a trump card. "Look at this." She held up something in her hand. "His compass." "This compass seems broken; what use is a compass that can"t point north?" "I don't want to go north," Jack suddenly appeared from nowhere. "You haven't left yet?" Will said irritably. "Oh, young man, don't speak like that; it's quite hurtful," Jack made a face. "Now, Miss Swan, if you don't mind—" he leaned over and took the compass, "I won't keep you any longer."
Will and Elizabeth had nothing to say . They had only seen hosts send off guests, not guests sending off hosts. "Why on earth did you let him go?" Will was angry. "He saved my life," Elizabeth replied. "What?" "But you might not know that. So, I want to let him go; we're even." "Fine!" Will pursed his lips, "Do you know how much the reward for capturing him is?" "Is that all you care about, the reward?" Elizabeth asked. "Do you know how much it is?" Will asked angrily. Elizabeth sighed and dropped a bag, the sound of clinking coins ringing out. "Take this, four times the reward, just let him go." "I'm not..." Will stopped, realizing that he was indeed motivated by the reward. "Sorry for interrupting your chance to earn a reward," Elizabeth said, pushing the door open, one foot already out, then pulling it back. "Let him go three more times." With that, she turned and walked away. "Elizabeth!" Will called out, unsure if she heard him; she didn’t come back.
After Elizabeth left, Will stood in the shack, filled with complex emotions. He knew he should chase after her, but he didn't want to seem too eager. Just then, Jack Sparrow's figure appeared before him again. "You, my friend, are quite the fool," Jack said, leaning against the doorframe with a teasing smile. "You let me go and are still standing here in a daze?" "You shouldn't be here!" Will said angrily, "You're a pirate!" "So? I don't want to miss such an entertaining scene," Jack shrugged, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "And it seems Miss Swan is quite interested in you." "She’s interested in me? What are you talking about?" Will was confused. "Oh, don't play dumb, young man," Jack laughed, "This is big news." Will"s heart raced. "I can"t let her get involved in your troubles." "Troubles? I don’t think I have any," Jack waved his hand dismissively. "I'm just an innocent pirate, ready to enjoy life at any moment." "Innocent pirate? You really know how to joke," Will said coldly. "Well, since you feel that way, I won't disturb you any longer," Jack turned to leave but paused, looking back at Will. "But remember, Miss Swan is someone worth cherishing. Don't let her down."
